This 1978 Porsche 911SC Targa was modified under previous ownership in the late 1990s before the current owner acquired it in 2019. The car is finished in black over black leather and houndstooth cloth and powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six sourced from a 1995 Porsche 993 that was rebuilt by Jerry Woods Enterprises and paired with a G50 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential from Patrick Motor Sports with design and installation assistance form Jim Patrick. Additional modifications include replica IROC bumpers, bullet side mirrors, a dimpled reflector delete, Kinesis 3-piece wheels powder coated black in 2019 under current ownership, 993 Turbo Big Red brakes, JRZ RS Pro Comp 3 coilovers, Smart Racing adjustable sway bars, a TRG aluminum strut tower brace, Turbo tie rods, a GHL custom stainless steel exhaust, Recaro Classic M Expert seats, a Momo steering wheel, a Kenwood head unit, a custom sound system, and more. Service completed under current ownership includes a glass-out respray, installation of Dynamat sound deadening, reupholstering the interior, and replacement of the fuel tank, engine harness, clutch slave cylinder, wheel bearings, fuel lines, belts, and the fender oil cooler, hoses, and lines. Three-piece 18″ Kinesis K28 forged wheels are wear Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 tires measuring 225/40 up front and 285/30 out back. The braking system features red 993 Turbo calipers, cross-drilled rotors, stainless steel lines, Smart Racing cooling ducts up front, and a 930 master cylinder. The car rides on JRZ RS Pro triple-adjustable coilovers with new spindles, 935-style spring plates, Smart Racing adjustable sway bars, a TRG aluminum strut tower brace, monoball joints, needle bearings, and turbo tie rods. The wheel bearings were replaced in December 2021.
The cabin houses Recaro Classic Expert M seats sourced in December 2021 and trimmed in black leather with houndstooth inserts, accompanied by matching door pockets, tie-downs, and accents. Dynamat sound deadening was installed in 2019, at which time all panels and rubber were reupholstered or replaced. The rear seats have been replaced with a shelf, housing speakers connected to a Kenwood Bluetooth head unit. The factory air conditioning system has been removed. Vehicle has an auto-dimming MITO rearview mirror that features a compass and temperature readout.
A Momo Mod 07 steering wheel fronts a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 170-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The 6-digit odometer shows 157,239k miles, approximately 4240 of which were added by the current owner. The seller reports that 68,739k miles have been added since the engine was rebuilt.
The 3.6-liter flat-six was reportedly sourced from a 5k-mile 1995 993 and installed in this car in 1999. A 2001 rebuild by Jerry Woods Enterprises consisted of a 3.8-liter piston and cylinder set as well as new gaskets, bearings, valve guides, and more. Additional equipment includes a Motronic fuel pump, a lightweight starter, and three oil coolers located in the right front fender, front valence, and on the engine. Service completed under current ownership included but not limited to removing the engine to replace engine harness, multiple oil changes, replacing the fuel tank, spark plugs, belts, and fuel lines as well as the fender oil cooler, stone guard, hoses, and lines.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed G50 manual transaxle and limited-slip differential which were installed by Patrick Motorsports in 2002. A Centerforce heavy-duty pressure plate and a 20-lb flywheel are equipped. A Wevo short-shift kit was installed in 2019, and the clutch slave cylinder was replaced in December 2021.
Service records provided show the engine rebuild by Jerry Woods Enterprises in 2001, as well as the transmission work completed by Patrick Motorsports.
